WE NEED

Joshua Martinez

on the APS School Board

Community Advocate. Public School Parent. Ready to Lead.

Why I’m Running

As a parent, I see both the strengths and the struggles of our public education system. Too many students are falling behind in essential subjects. Too much of our hard-earned taxpayer money is spent without real results. And too often, the focus is on bureaucracy, rather than the students and teachers who need it most.

I’m running for APS School Board because I believe we can do better.

As someone raising a young family right here in Albuquerque, I’m committed to ensuring that every child has access to a great education, regardless of their background or neighborhood. Our children deserve the best opportunities, and that starts with a system that truly supports them—one where teachers have the tools they need to succeed, where parents are heard, and where accountability is at the core of everything we do.

We need leadership that prioritizes what’s best for students. Leadership that listens, takes action, and makes real change happen.

As a parent, I understand the stakes, and as a leader, I’m committed to ensuring our schools are a place where every child has the chance to thrive. Together, we can build a brighter future for Albuquerque’s children.

That’s why I’m stepping up.

Join me. Let’s make a real difference.

Meet Joshua Martinez

Joshua Martinez is a proud father of three and a committed public servant running to bring new leadership to the APS Board of Education in District 5.

Professionally, Joshua serves as the New Mexico Health Equity and Community Impact Director for the American Diabetes Association, where he leads statewide initiatives to support families and improve community well-being. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Health and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of New Mexico.

Joshua and his family are deeply rooted in public education. His father worked for over 30 years as a school counselor and administrator. Today, his wife and siblings are speech pathologists serving in public schools across the state. Joshua and his wife Hannah are actively involved in their children’s education at Tres Volcanes Community Collaborative School, where two of their children are currently enrolled and their youngest will join in the future.

In his neighborhood, Joshua is a trusted and active voice. He serves as:

  • President of the Petroglyph’s Homeowners Association and Tres Volcanes Neighborhood Association

  • Vice-Chair of the Albuquerque Westside Business Association

  • Bernalillo County Youth Basketball Coach

  • Former Member of the City of Albuquerque Board of Ethics

Joshua is running for the APS School Board because he believes in the power of public education—and the urgent need to do better for students, families, and educators.

WHAT I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH

Boost Academic Outcomes

Focus on proven strategies in reading, math, and science to ensure students are meeting grade-level benchmarks and prepared for the future.

Expand Career and College Pathways

Give students real options after high school—whether that’s college, trade school, or career—with strong CTE, STEM, and dual credit programs.

Fund Classrooms, Not Bureaucracy

Cut waste and ensure more education dollars go directly to classrooms, teachers, and the tools students need to succeed.

Support High-Performing Schools

Champion quality public schools—including strong charter options—so families have access to great choices across the district.

Ensure Safe and Supportive Schools

Make student safety a top priority by increasing campus security, improving emergency response protocols, and placing more mental health professionals in schools to support students’ well-being and prevent crises before they happen.
